Cadiz changed recently the coach, as they need fresh ideas and to do something in order to try to avoid relegation. They are sitting 19th on the table, 4 points below the safe zone, so they have very little margin of error.

The new coach is Sergio, a guy with huge experience in relegation teams who knows perfectly how to make the team competitive. Cadiz had a terrible campaign, with bad performances but also bad luck with several injuries of key players. For this match several key players are back, like topscorer Choco Lozano.

They played the Cup in the weekend, but made huge rotations and put many youngsters in the match, a clear signal that the team is focused on this match since Sergio arrived.

At home they aren’t pretty strong, but also isn’t an easy team to beat: only big clubs did it (Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Real Sociedad) and others luckily like Osasuna (2:3 scoring at 91’ and 95’).

On the other hand, Espanyol is already so far from relegation. They made an amazing first half of the campaign and are sitting 9 points above relegation. Have a good squad and it’s strong at home, but a weak traveler. So far only managed to win one away match.

On the weekend they played a Spanish Cup game against Mallorca, where they put the best squad and it was a very demanding fixture. So surely they will be a bit more tired than Cadiz, who used reserves and youngsters.

On paper we have two teams who have the same target (avoid relegation) and have similar squads. Maybe Espanyol is a better team, but as a visitor they are so weak. Furthermore, Cadiz is the team who has more motivation here, as they really need points urgently. This will be the first league game of the new coach and he needs to achieve a good result to justify that the change in the bench has been correct. And lastly, we can’t forget that the hosts played the weekend game with reserves and the guests with full squad, without enough time to recover energy.
