FC Utrecht VS Lyon

Utrecht welcome Lyon for this UEFA Champions Europa league stage round 1 battle at Stadion Galgenwaard in Utrecht early Friday morning Beijing time. This is the second-best of UEFA's three international club competitions. Lyon have started the Ligue 1 surprisingly well - at least results-wise.. They are currently, after five rounds of play, in 3rd place. However, I would be surprised if they were to finish in the top-3. They have grabbed 12 points. They have netted the ball only seven times though. Lyon have conceded only three goals but their number of expected goals against (xGA) is significantly bigger. In their last game they beat Angers 1-0 at home - as very clear underdogs on the betting market. They generated 0.75 more in xG than Angers. However, both teams had three big scoring chances. Before this they were pretty poor, losing to Rennes 1-3 on the road. Lyon were imbalanced on the pitch for most of the 90 minutes.  The bookies saw the games more or less as a coin toss - at the time of kickoff. Rennes generated significantly more in xG and recorded a big 23 goal attempts. Utrecht have started the season somewhat well and are in 8th place. They have nine points to their account - after six games. They have a fine score difference of 11:5. They definitely have potential for improvement.  In their last game they lost to Sittard 0-1 away from home but the had 65% ball possession and recorded many more total shots (14-8) and two more shots on target. Sittard did record one more big scoring chance though. Let's not forget that they have won eight of their last twelve matches. In round 3 of the Eredivisie they proved they can play, especially in front of their loud fans, crushing Excelsior 4-1. In the Europa League Qualifying they crushed Sheriff Tiraspol 7-2, a decent Swiss team, Servette, (5-2) and beat Zrinjski 2-0 - on aggregate, I mean.
