Fulham managed to snatch a 1–1 draw in their opening away match against Brighton in the very last seconds of the game. Overall, however, their performance was rather weak, and the draw was more down to chance than something they truly earned on the pitch. Marco Silva opted for a rarely seen three-centre-back formation against Brighton. The choice was likely due to a lack of options at left-back, but as a result, Fulham’s attacking output dried up to almost nothing, partly because of the formation.

Manchester United’s display against Arsenal, despite the 0–1 defeat, was on the whole quite promising. Creating top-class chances against Arsenal’s strong defence proved difficult, but new signings like Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha both looked sharp. The omission of Andrei Onana from the squad in the opener was a surprise, but Altay Bayindir’s mistake in the set-piece that led to Arsenal’s goal will likely see Onana restored to the starting line-up.

Fulham’s low defensive block will require United’s central midfielders to perform significantly better on the ball than they did in the opening round. A much-anticipated change would be Benjamin Sesko, one of the summer’s marquee signings, coming into the starting line-up in place of Mason Mount. The gap in basic quality between the teams clearly favours United and is enough to justify their status as away favourites, with about a +40 percent probability of winning, which leaves us a the choice of 1X here.
