TOTTENHAM – BURNLEY

Tottenham suffered a bitter 2–3 defeat to PSG in the UEFA Super Cup. Blowing a two-goal lead and then losing on penalties will test their confidence, but in terms of gameplay, there was very little to criticize in Thomas Frank’s team’s game plan and execution. Already after the first competitive match, the changes brought in by Frank and his coaching staff can be listed as tactical flexibility and sharper set-piece play.

Burnley’s prospects for the season appear extremely challenging, even though their defensive playing style offers a more realistic chance of survival compared to the other promoted teams. The absence of Martin Dúbravka, signed as the first-choice goalkeeper, in the opening rounds requires heroics from his replacements. Other areas of the squad are also badly in need of Premier League-level reinforcements.

Tottenham have their problems, particularly with absences in attack. Still, the significant difference in overall quality combined with home advantage is enough to justify to be big favourites.

BRIGHTON – FULHAM

Brighton’s first season under Fabian Hürzeler, the youngest manager in Premier League history, went excellently compared to expectations. The squad has both the quality and depth to compete for a top-six finish, especially if they manage to keep hold of midfield engine Carlos Baleba despite transfer rumors.

Fulham have managed to establish themselves as a solid mid-table Premier League side under Marco Silva, and their outlook for the coming season doesn’t differ much from last year’s successful campaign. The injury to key player Antonee Robinson is a significant setback, and it seems unlikely that his replacement, Ryan Sessegnon, can reach the American full-back’s level.

I rate the hosts as clear favorites to win, thanks to their stronger baseline quality and home advantage.
