Saturday afternoon’s Premier League clash between Newcastle and Aston Villa is inevitably overshadowed by Newcastle’s escalating transfer situation. The club’s top scorer of the past two seasons, Alexander Isak, has been at the center of intense summer transfer speculation. Newcastle has rejected Liverpool’s £110 million bid for Isak, reportedly demanding £150 million.

More movement in both directions remains possible. Without Isak, Newcastle’s strength is considered slightly weaker than at the end of last season. A positive, of course, is Eddie Howe continuing as manager.

Aston Villa also continues under familiar leadership, with Unai Emery aiming to improve on last season’s sixth-place finish. Villa’s transfer summer has been relatively quiet so far, though Jacob Ramsey has attracted interest from several clubs. Other key players may also be targeted by bigger sides.

The main addition is 24-year-old striker Evann Guessand from Nice. For the opener, Villa’s biggest selection problem is the suspension of first-choice goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez. He will be replaced by Marco Bizot, the 34-year-old who joined from Brest and is set to make his Premier League debut.
