The absence of Kristoffer Nordfeldt, Dino Besirovic, and Anton Salétros will be felt — especially the latter, who orchestrates so much of AIK’s build-up and tempo control from midfield. Without him, the rhythm and structure in central areas tend to suffer, as was evident in previous matches where the team struggled to progress the ball cleanly. But the squad has depth, and recent signings like Aron Csongvai are beginning to find their feet. Expect Johan Hove and young Axel Brönner to shoulder more responsibility centrally, while Celina’s flair could be decisive in unlocking a compact Östers setup.

Östers, for their part, are spiralling. Three straight defeats, no goals scored in that run, and now drifting deeper into relegation danger. The optimism of spring — when they managed five games unbeaten — feels a long way off. Their performance against Malmö last weekend wasn’t catastrophic in structure or effort, but they continue to lack precision in the final third and vulnerability in key moments is costing them. They've made some adjustments, bringing in Anssi Suhonen on loan to add bite and movement from midfield, but integration takes time and this isn't the ideal fixture to bed in a new starter.

In terms of shape, expect Östers to sit deeper, absorb pressure and try to break through the pace of Sejdiu and Uddenäs. The problem is that against organised sides with strong backlines, their approach lacks punch. They created chances against Malmö, yes, but none of the sort that truly unsettles a confident defence — and despite AIK’s injuries, the likes of Isherwood, Benkovic, and Papagiannopoulos provide enough steel to cope.

Another factor that tilts the scales in AIK’s favour is the setting. Strawberry Arena has been a fortress this season, with the hosts still unbeaten at home in league play. Even against trickier opposition like Hammarby and Elfsborg, they’ve shown resilience and the ability to grind results. The AIK crowd is also an undeniable force — especially since the loss to Malmö sparked a louder and more defiant tone from the home support. The team has fed off that energy, and there’s been a noticeable lift in collective effort and intensity on their own turf.

This is not the most glamorous or explosive AIK side we’ve seen in recent years, but they remain well-drilled, pragmatic, and increasingly streetwise under Thomassen’s leadership. Expect them to dominate territory, probe patiently and take control through set-pieces or second-phase moments. With Totte Nyman back on form and players like Flataker and Prica pushing for more minutes, there’s a decent range of threats to worry Östers’ shaky backline.

While AIK must manage minutes carefully ahead of next week’s European return leg, the focus for this Sunday is clear. A clean, professional job is expected. Östers might make them work for it early on, but it’s hard to see past a home win — even with key absentees. The gulf in quality, structure, and confidence between these sides right now is too significant.

HACKEN - DJURGARDENS

After a tough but respectable away loss to Anderlecht on Thursday, Hacken return to league duties with questions over fatigue, rotation, and focus — and that gives this game a very different edge.

Despite their mid-table standing, Häcken have quietly regained some balance. They’re unbeaten in three league matches and their performances have been better than the results suggest. A 0–0 away to Halmstad last week might not grab headlines, but it showed a calmer defensive structure and a patient approach in possession. That matters, because this Häcken team — even with a patched-up backline — still knows how to play football the right way. They’ve been missing key players like Hammar, Vaisanen and Wembangomo, and Olle Samuelsson is suspended too. Yet Jens Gustafsson’s squad have adapted well, partly thanks to the leadership of Mikkel Rygaard and the continued form of Layouni and Leach Holm.

The real issue here is whether they can recover physically and mentally after 90 intense minutes in Belgium, especially knowing they’ll need to go full throttle again in the return leg next Thursday. That context may push Gustafsson to rotate his XI here, just like he did against Elfsborg (where won 0:2)— and Djurgården, sharp and rested, won’t need a second invitation to take advantage.

That said, Häcken at home remain dangerous. Bravida Arena is a tight ground where Häcken’s tempo and combinations in the final third can stretch any backline, and their synthetic pitch always gives them an edge. Against a Djurgården side that’s looked more comfortable on artificial turf than on natural grass, this might turn into a fairly open battle — but it’s hard to ignore the attacking quality Häcken still carry even with rotation.

Djurgården come into the match with a renewed sense of purpose. After a disappointing first half of the season, they’ve shown real progress since the break. They beat Elfsborg 1–0 last weekend and were arguably the better side in every game since returning. Mikael Anderson looks like a very shrewd addition, linking well with Nguen and Gulliksen behind August Priske, who’s finally playing with confidence and assertiveness up front. Even though they’ve struggled for consistency away from home, the balance in Honkavaara’s team is improving, and this feels like a side that’s getting back to what they’re supposed to be.

Still, for all of Djurgården’s recent progress, this fixture is tricky. Häcken’s European commitments might be seen as a vulnerability, but they’ve played these rhythms before, and their attacking chemistry remains among the best in the league. Even without a full squad, they have enough tactical structure and final-third craft to trouble Djurgården — especially if the visitors push high and leave space behind.

With that in mind, backing Häcken to avoid defeat makes a lot of sense for me. Djurgården might be slightly fresher and more settled, but Häcken’s ceiling — even with rotation — is high enough to see them getting at least a point here.
