AC Oulu challenge HJK in this Veikkausliiga battle at Bolt Arena very late Sunday evening Beijing time. Yes, Runavik were better than expected but HJK were almost hilariously bad in the Faroe Islands! Indeed, they have been very erratic in recent weeks - unable to beat a single team who are equally good - not to mention better - than HJK themselves.. They have lost three of their last five games - including a 2-3 home defeat against Jaro on the 2nd of July. HJK were leading 2-0 in the second half but somehow lost, after being traded at 1.01-1.02 in live betting! HJK were priced below 1.30 to win the game. This loss - and the 0-4 defeat to Runavik prove that everything is not right with HJK.. On a good day the can be very strong but these kinds of performances have been rare in the last 1.5 years..

Let's remember that HJK are only in 4th place in the Veikkausliiga standings. They have grabbed 26 points - seven less than Inter who top the standings. HJK sacked Toni "Toke" Korkeakunnas after only five Veikkausliiga games in May - having won only one of the first five games. Yes, they immediately improved under the caretaker head coach, Miika Nuutinen. He is a promising but undeniably an inexperienced coach.. Aleksi Lalli, the reserve/youth team coach, was appointed as Nuutinen's assistant coach. He is even younger - and also a very promising coach. No, HJK have not fully convinced me even under Nuutinen. Probably mainly because of the 120 minutes on Thursday three of HJK's four best players - Pukki, Ring and Hostikka start on the bench.. This will probably affect the game more than bookies believe. HJK has a less wide squad than usual (at this time of the season). The current odds of around 1.55-1.60 on the home win - taking the fatigue and squad rotation factors into account - are too low. In their last game they deservedly took all three points at home against KTP (3-2). Oulu generated 1.01 more in expected goals (xG) and also had more shots on goal, total shots and big scoring chances. Before this they took a point from the reigning champions, KuPS, through a 2-2 draw at home - as underdogs on the betting market. It was a pretty poor performance from both teams. the tempo of the game was low - even by the Veikkausliiga standards.. KuPS generated a little more in xG - but only 0.61..
