FC Arges welcome FC Rapid Bucuresti for  this Romanian Superliga round 1 battle at Stadionul Nicolae Dobrin Pitești very early Saturday morning Beijing time. This league is, as a whole, of slightly better than average level by European standards. Football fans and us serious football bettors and we serious, profit-hungry bettors can expect a match of somewhat mediocre level by this league's standards here. Most importantly we have another very promising betting opportunity here! We have won a whopping 13 of the last 14 picks betting on this league! Firstly I want to stress that no team are usually even close to their best level in the first 3-4 completive games of the season. This, in most cases, makes the match more balanced than it would be in say round 10.. The reason for this is that the better/best teams usually have more potential for improvement than the lowly teams as the season progresses.. FC Arges were promoted from Liga 2 to the first tier for this season. This is where the club, in my opinion, belongs in terms of potential and fan-base.. I expect them to be extremely motivated here - in front of their loyal but demanding fans! Even so, Rapid București Cluj are, of course, the stronger team here - they do have an edge over the hosts in every area of the game - albeit not as significant as the bookies seem to believe! I cannot agree with the bookies who offer the odds of around 2.10 on the Bucuresti win here. I emphasize that the visitors are, in terms of pure class, quite far from the level of the very best in this league..  The obvious clever bet is the Arges +0.5 goals handicap option! Bucuresti finished only in 5th place last season but were marginally lucky in terms of expected points (xPTS)  and very lucku and expected goals against (xGA). In terms of expected goals (xG) they were, however, unlucky. I would not be surprised if they failed to make it to the top-6 this season..

I want to highlight that Arges were even stronger than I would have expected in the Liga 2 last season. They took a total of 57 points in the regular season and Championship Group combined! In the Championship group (10 games) they scored 19 goals and allowed only five goals! They have played six friendly games in the preseason, winning the last five! As a result they must feel confident ahead of this big game against Bucuresti! In their most recent match they comfortably beat CS Dinamo Bucuresti 2-0. Before this they defeated Campulung 1-0 but were, in all honesty, disappointing offensively.. On the 25th of June they beat Radomlje, a decent Slovenian team, 2-1 at a neutral location. București, on the other hand, have won only one of their last eight competitive matches and just one of their last 11 games overall. This has probably had a negative effect on their level of confidence. In their last game they were priced around 1.80 to beat Sabah Baku at a neutral location but it was a 2-2 draw.. On the 24th of June Vardar, a Macedonian team, beat București 1-0. The Romanians were priced around 1.90 to win by the bookies but were disappointing..
