I also want to mention that the weather was poor and Lahti is some six hours (by bus) away from Jakobstad. I want to stress that performance-wise Jaro have started the season better than I would have expected in my in-depth preseason Veikkausliiga analysis. They have eight points to their account and have a goal difference of 7:11. However, their number of expected goals (xG) per game is bigger! As expected, they have played mainly defensive, well-organized football and will probably apply this tactic here as well, at least for as long as the score is level -  or Jaro are in the lead. This is, in my expert opinion, a clever tactic as have been, and will be the underdogs in the majority of Veikkausliiga matches this season.. Indeed, Jaro's style of play has worked well as they have conceded only 11 goals - one less than Ilves - or just one more HJK, the biggest, richest and most successful team in Finland!

VPS, of course, have an edge over Jaro in all areas of the game - and are the favourites here - but the current odds of around 2.05 on the away win (in the 90 minutes of play) are not by any means justified.  The Jaro +0.5 goals handicap option is the obvious professional bettor's choice here! I want to remind my fans that the pitch at Jakobstads Centralplan is (still) in incredibly poor condition – even by Finnish standards! This will hurt VPS' game more than the bookies probably realize.. Indeed, the number assists by both teams - and especially the number of completed assists - at Jakobstads Centralplan has been significantly smaller than on any artificial turf in Veikkausliiga! At VPS' home "stadium", Lemonsoft Stadion, the artificial turf is good by Finnish standards. The difference compared to Jakobstads Centralplan is massive!

Let's keep in mind that Jaro have lost only two of their last seven matches!  In their most recent game they lost to Inter Turku 0-1 at home – as very clear underdogs on the betting market.. I want to mention that Inter Turku have performed very well -  not losing a single game in Veikkausliiga this season.. Especially taking into account Jaro's J. Brunell's (very stupid) red card in the 24th minute Jaro's performance – with some "help" from the poor pitch - was good! Indeed, Inter had only 54% ball possession and recorded just three more total shots – 11-8 to be precise. Moreover, Inter had only one big scoring chance and generated only 0.10 more in xG. Before this, Jaro crushed HIFK, a team from Helsinki. Indeed, the final score in this Suomen Cup (Finnish Cup) clash at Jakobstads Centralplan was 5-0! In their last match they were disappointing, losing to Haka 1-2 on the road. Indeed, the hosts recorded more total shots (13-8), shots on target and big scoring chances. The xG numbers were 1.11-0.58 in the hosts' favour. Yes, VPS defeated KuPS, the reigning champions, on the 25th of May. The final score in Kuopio, at Väre Areena, was 0-2.
