In the 12th round of the Allsvenskan, Sirius and AIK face off at Studenternas Idrottspark on Sunday at 16:30 local time

Led by Andreas Engelmark, Sirius currently sits 14th in the Allsvenskan, just below the relegation line, having earned only nine points from eleven matches. The team from Uppsala has only managed two wins: against Värnamo (2-1) in the opening round at Finnvedsvallen, and Häcken (2-0) at home on matchday 8. Aside from that, they’ve collected points from three draws: away at Malmö (1-1), and at home to both Halmstad (1-1) and Degerfors (1-1). Losses have come at home to Djurgården (0-1), Brommapojkarna (0-3), and Norrköping (1-2), as well as away to Elfsborg (3-4), Hammarby (2-3), and most recently GAIS (1-2) last weekend at Gamla Ullevi.

In that most recent match, the expected goals (xG) favored GAIS strongly. After a goalless first half, Sirius took the lead when Scottish striker Robbie Ure scored off a setup by Noel Milleskog in the 66th minute. Yamen Boudriga equalized for GAIS in the 71st minute, and Ibrahim Diabate netted his seventh goal of the season (and in his third consecutive match) in the 86th to secure a 2–1 win for GAIS.

Team news - Sirius:

Sirius will be without defenders Saba Mamatsashvili (suspended) and Patrick Nwadike, as well as forward Herman Sjögrell. Finland U21 star and midfield wizard Leo Walta will still feature in Sirius’s squad before heading to the European Championship in Poland next week, but he is a player to watch closely!

Under coach Mikkjal Thomassen, AIK remains the only unbeaten team in the Allsvenskan, with seven wins and five draws from twelve league matches.

The Stockholm side dropped from first to second place while drawing three straight matches, allowing Mjällby to overtake them. However, AIK managed to end that draw streak by narrowly defeating Brommapojkarna 1–0 in the derby played at Grimsta Idrottspark. The expected goals (xG) favored Brommapojkarna by almost a full goal, which is a good example that AIK have been somewhat lucky so far.

AIK’s Norwegian midfield maestro Johan Hove scored the match-winner just before halftime, assisted by Bersant Celina. Earlier in the half, Bromma’s Daleho Irandust had a chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot but missed. In the second half, AIK’s midfield general Anton Saletros was sent off after receiving two yellow cards.

This is likely to be a low-scoring affair, where AIK could either grind out a goalless away draw to keep their unbeaten streak alive, or not, but at least it is where the value lies.
