In order to improve their defence their midfielders should be more active in defending – and the defenders should give less risky passes near their own goal..

Atletico Madrid, with a better squad (on paper) than ever have been strong this season – as I expected. They are in 3rd place, behind the giants of Spanish (and European) football – Barcelona and Real Madrid. They still have a small chance of even winning the league! To keep this “dream” alive they have to win games like this one. They have secured a place in the UEFA Champions League for next season so they can take risks to win games.. A draw here would not be worth much for “Tico”. I believe the visitors will be aggressive right from the kick off - putting big pressure on the hosts' shaky defence. Let's also remember that they came very close to eliminating "the mighty" Real in the Champions League, losing after penalties. Real lost to Arsenal 1-5 on aggregate in the CL but are still the reigning "Champions of Europe". Atletico have 63 points to their account, only three points less than Real and seven points less than Barca. Las Palmas have won only one of their last 14 games, losing most of these 14 matches! In their last game they beat Getafe, a lame team, 3-1 on the road but the hosts had more total shots and shots on target – despite their player, D. Rico being sent off in the 33rd minute when the score was 1-0. Without the red card Las Palmas probably would not have won.. Moreover, hosts generated 0.19 more in xG! Before this Las Palmas were imbalanced on the pitch – deservedly losing to an under-performing Real Sociedad 1-3 at home. The visitors generated 2.93 in xG – much more than Las Palmas. Sociedad also recorded four more big scoring chances. Tico have won two of their last games. Before this Tico beat Sevilla 2-1 on the road - deserving the narrow victory.
