The current French side coached by Didier Deschamps are unbeaten in 26 competitive games in a row, and the coach said they are not going to treat this match as a friendly even if they have already secured their win of the group.
The motivation naturally are in the home side, who need to win to secure their play-off spot as it seems likely that Ukraine will get all three points from Bosnia, who were horrible last Saturday in their 1-3 loss to Finland.
The French side are not unbeaten in friendlies, last year Finland visited them and came away with a 0-2 shock win from Paris, it is a result which partly brings confidence to the home side here, but works also as a reminder and source of motivation for France.
Indeed, the coach said that he does respect the the competition so much that he is not going to rotate much, and for example first choice keeper Lloris is set to play.
Finland did have a new defense in Bosnia as the centerback pair of Arajuuri and Toivio is getting old, the younger Robert Ivanov and Leo Väisänen did extremely well in the 5-man defense. Right full-back Raitala is suspended tonight, and Ivanov got a minor muscle injury while celebrating Finland's 3rd goal in Bosnia is a serious doubt.
The key player in the win in Bosnia was however midfielder Rasmus Schuller who players Swedish Allsvenskan, he bossed the midfield along with Rangers Glen Kamara. Was the win a deserved one? In truth Finland had the best chances despite losing the shot count by some 20 shots, but the goals were somewhat lucky and mostly based on opponent and refereeing errors. It was not a very comfortable show.
At the same time in Paris France beat Kazakstan by 8-0, with Mbappe scoring four of them.
Yes, France will rotate some of the players, they have no need to win, they are away in front of the full home support in a cold stadion in Helsinki. Maybe they do not win?
The thing is that a draw is unlikely to be enough for Finland here, and in case of a late draw situation I am not all sure I would be confident to see Finnish side desperately trying to score, and have the counter attack threat of any French striker whoever it may be, Mbappe, Griezmann, Yedder or Benzema..
Money does not matter here as much as usual, but just to remind you the player market value of Finland is about 40 million EUR, France's is 1000 million.
France to win probability around 60 % here, but naturally personally I hope there is a surprise coming!
