Juventus vs Roma

Juventus host Roma at Allianz Stadium for this Seria A round 8 clash. I believe this will be a "chess match" between two big teams - or more precisely two big managers - Allegri and Mourinho. Let's take a closer look..

Indeed, this might turn out to be a very cautious match by both teams and not a huge number of goals is expected. Juventus have played with a very defensive strategy this season - not only in the Champions League against one of the best teams in the World and reigning Champions League winners, Chelsea but also in Serie A - even as favorites. I have written many times before that Juventus most certainly are not the great club they were for years and neither do they have the squad to dominate matches even against mediocre opponents in this league. Hence Allegri's strategy is in a way understandable. Juventus' odds seem still to be affected by the huge number of Scudettos (Serie a trophies) they won during their long history and the Champions League final they eventually lost to Real Madrid some years ago. We all know they lost Cristiano Ronaldo after last season which is a major blow because he was pretty often the only true offensive weapon the club had. Chiesa is a promising striker of course but sometimes a little inconsistent and would need more help from other offensive players. In the past couple of years Juventus have not succeed in the Champions League even with Ronaldo and last season were ousted by not a that great club Porto after pretty balanced two matches. They only very narrowly made it to this years Champions League where they crushed weak Malmö and took a undeserved 1-0 win over Chelsea a few weeks ago. In the Serie A they are not even close to the top of the table and have not really deserved a better position! They have taken a few win lately in this league too but have not played very well. I have lowered their power rating as the season has progressed. Juventus will miss important Dybala in this match. De Ligt is also out.

Roma, on the other hand, under the legendary manager Mourinho have played a lot better than Juventus and have a lot more points in the bank at the moment. I would say they are about the same level as Juventus by raw class and have clearly over 50% chance to take at least a point today. Roma +0.5 goals handicap is my pick for my growing fan-base!
