Academica made a terrible market for this season. The last season for them was really good, they ended in the 4th position but fought until the last game for the 3rd place that gave access to the play-offs. In a certain moment of the season with less than 12 games to finish the season they beat Estoril as away 1-0 and reached the 1st position, but then the pressure arise and they couldn't play well again since that. If we look at their main XI of the last season (Mika, Fabiano, Ze Castro, Silverio, Bruno Teles, Fabinho, Ricardo Dias, Guima, Joao Mario, Sanca and Bouldini) only Mika, Ze castro and Ricardo Dias are able to play tomorrow. Joao Mario is still playing for Academica, but is injured and so will miss this game. So far, they have 2 official matches and 2 losses, first against Portimonense where they conceded a lot of space to Portimonense and many goal chances, then the most recent game was against Rio Ave where they were completely destroyed and lost 5-1. The team is not cohesive and the space they concede to the opponents is ridiculous. Tomorrow they won't have supporters, the game will be closed for public and so their home factor will be null and in my opinion will be better for Varzim as Academica's pitch is probably the biggest of Liga 2. I am pretty sure that the coach won't last more than 3 months as in the last season he lost the control of the group since February.

Varzim will be for sure a different team than the Varzim of 2020/2021. They had 3 coaches in the whole season and since Antonio Barbosa, the actual coach, arrived in the last season Varzim was in the last position and he ensured the permanence with a bad team. For this season, as they know that the coach deserves that, they invested a lot for this season and to explain that I can say that they bought 3 players from Chaves that were always in the starting XI, 1 from Estoril that was the champion, they have the best goalscorer of the season 2019/2020 and bought a centre-back, Cassio, that was playing for Farense who was champion 2 years ago of the Liga 2 aswell. So, for this season for sure they will fight for the promotion places and I am pretty sure that they won't less than the first 6 positions. They dominated Rio Ave for League cup, and just lost in penalties against them, the same team that won 5-1 against Academica. The most recent match was against Chaves, the favorite number 1 to be champion and Varzim was so much better the whole game at home with their incredible supporters, but they just scored the equalizer goal in the 89th minute and they come for this game really motivated and will play for the 3 points. They are better team, have better players and in a big field that benefits them as their trio in the attack is one of the fastest of the league.
