Class and xG

Arsenal do always sound like a top team, but in my papers they are somewhere at 6-8th in the rankings. The promoted side Brentford is rather low in most analysts papers, but if all goes well I can see them even in the top-10! Brentford have been top in all underlying data in Championship for some years, and finally they got the promotion they deserve! Pointless to talk about player value or budget with these as their approaches are completely different, Brentford like to buy cheap and grow value and class of their players. They are the prime example of “moneyball”.

Form

There is only preseason, and not much can usually be said. Brentford have played 6 games, won 4 of them including Valencia and Watford, drew with Man Utd and lost to West Ham. On the other hand Arsenal are 0-1-3, and even lost to very low class Hibernian. Not much to build self-confidence whatever the lineups!

Coaching and tactical approach

Thomas Frank at Brentford is likely to field a 5-defender line, they are good with the possession as well but now at one step bigger league the transitions will have a bigger role. At Arsenal more was expected from coach Mikel Arteta, whose performances were shaky. Arsenal are free from European football which is only a good thing, but recently Arteta has changed his favoured formation from 3-man defense to 4-2-3-1, but unless there are quick results he is under a sacking threat as most fans are not happy with him. Arsenal rely heavily on their wings, perhaps Frank knows how to block Pepe and Aubameyang?

Team news

Brentford miss midfielder Dasilva and Jensen, but top striker Toney is likely to start.

Arsenal are without cb Gabriel, defensive midfielder Partey and striker Nketiah while also defender Holding is a doubt.

Both to score, and it is likely to give Brentford at least one point tonight! 1-1.
