Filled with phenomenal rising talents, Mexico's under-23 squad played quite well at this tournament, and it is such a shame they cannot fight for a gold medal. Japan's story is similar, but Hajime Moriyasu's men performed much less dominating than the guests throughout the campaign.

Japan began its run with a minimal victory over South Africa. The group stage went flawless, with Moriyasu's youngsters claiming first place with three victories from three matches. However, it was the quarter-finals when the problems started to show up for the hosts. They played a goalless game vs. New Zealand, only to barely defeat them on penalties. Japan is led by twenty-year-old Takefusa Kubo, who is just back to Real Madrid after a one-season loan to Getafe. He scored three goals in this tournament, but is yet to find the net in the knockout stage. Japan didn't score a single goal in the playoffs, and I expect Mexico's well-organized attack to give them trouble.

Mexico opened the group stage with a 4-1 win over France. Jaime Lozano's men finished the group with two triumphs and one loss, meeting South Korea in the quarter-finals. That was such an interesting clash, ending 6-3 in Mexico's favor which is also the highest-scoring game of this Olympics. Mexico has scored the most goals out of any nation so far, finding the net impressive fourteen times.
