I am glad the odds have moved against Krasnodar today and have opened up a good -1 line in the Asian bookmakers - enough reason for us to back the southern club again.

I had briefly reviewed the situation with the team and the club in my pick for their win against Ural a week ago. One of the strongest RPL managers Goncharenko, if not THE strongest, has had a full preparation cycle with the squad (finally) and this should work to Krasnodar’s benefit. Last season he was thrown into the moving train with all its issues and naturally failed to fix them on the run.

Now he’s done some squad shaping, released overaged pensioners like strikers Berg and Ari; promoted fresh blood (Spertsyan and Chernikov from Krasnodar-2) and got the biggest purchase of summer’21 in the league - centre forward Cordoba from Hertha Berlin for 20m EUR.

Despite some serious issues, Krasnodar took a 3-0 win over Ural on the opening matchday. It should serve them well and help build on that confidence from week to week. Plus, their starting XI is only getting better by day as left fullback Ramirez is hitting full fitness and signing Cordoba is adapting to the new country.

Khimki are a side that had lost firepower over summer - leading winger Mirzov returned to Spartak from loan; first choice striker Konate moved to Akhmat. Lack of quality in the final third limited them from taking points against Zenit in the opening game, although Khimki had left an ok impression.

As things are at the moment, the team is bound to struggle at the offensive end and the manager is openly acknowledging the issue, stating the club is on the market in search of a forward.

Their backline had never been good and has not gotten any better over summer. No surprise their keeper Lantratov was topping all charts for the number of saves per game as he’d always been busy by the teammates.

Last time Khimki came to visit in Krasnodar they got penetrated with 7 goals (7-2 scoreline). Even though this result is nowhere on the horizon this season, I still expect the home team quality to prevail.
