Göteborg and Halmstad lock horns in this Allsvenskan round 23 clash at Gamla Ullevi very early Tuesday morning Beijing time. Allsvenskan is the highest tier of Swedish football. The level of this league is somewhat mediocre by European standards.. They have netted the ball a lame 24 times in Allsvenskan and have conceded 35 goals. Yes, on paper they look better than the standings would reflect but do not play well as a team.. According to my sources their team spirit is also not great at the moment. Yes, they can improve but the bookies give this potential way too much emphasis! With the expected lineups,  even taking the home advantage into account they do deserve to be the favourites here but odds of around 1.50 on them to win..? This is definitely too low! We will take the Halmstad +1.5 goals handicap option with a big chance of winning. Let's remember that Göteborg have not been able to beat Halmstad in any of the last five matches between the two teams! They last locked horns in April and Halmstad won 1-0 at home.

 Let's not forget that Göteborg have failed to win any of their last eight Allsvenskan games and cannot be high in confidence.. On the 22nd of last month they did beat Ariana, a very small team, on the road 0-2 as big favourites. It was a Svenska Cupen (Swedish Cup) battle. I will give this win very little emphasis.. Göteborg have now lost two of their last three matches. In their most recent match they took a point from Häcken on the road. It was a 3-3 draw. I want to emphasize that despite the strong last season Häcken are having a disappointing season 2024 and are only in the 9th place at the moment.. They were disappointing against Göteborg as well but the visitors did unarguably play at a decent level.. They even recorded three more shots on goal. However, Häcken had 74% ball possession and had more goal attempts, shots off goal, corner kicks (12-2), attacks and dangerous attacks. Indeed, they should have won the game in the end.. Before this they bookies expected a very balanced clash between Göteborg and Hammarby at Gamla Ullevi but the visitors outplayed the lame hosts! They had 63.40% ball possession and recorded many more goal attempts (13-4), shots on target, shots off target, corner kicks, attacks and dangerous attacks – 65-33. In round 20, about a month ago, Elfsborg comfortably beat Göteborg 3-1. Göteborg were not terrible but their offense was lame – once again – lacking speed, creativity and passing accuracy.

Halmstad have grabbed only 21 points but they, too, can improve! They are in 15th place with a score difference of 23:40. Indeed, their defence is not solid at all- silly individual mistakes have been too common  - but luckily for them the Göteborg offense is so lame.. However, with a win Halmstad would take 12th place!  Indeed, the Allsvankan is – behind Malmö - a somewhat balanced league this season.. Halmstad have been in even worse form results-wise than Göteborg recently. Now they have not been strong in most games in recent months but have also had some bad luck.. They have won one of their last four matches.. In their last game they were priced around 10.00(!) to beat Elfsborg at home. The visitors took a 1-0 win but Halmstad had more goal attempts and shots off goal. Both teams managed three shots on target and the visitors had more attacks. Halmstad's performance against a very strong opponent was satisfactory. The players kept fighting right until the final whistle. Before this Halmstad lost Mjällby, currently in 7th place, 1-3 on the road as big underdogs. The hosts had four shots on target – Halmstad managed two. The visitors did however, record many more attacks (128-62) and dangerous attacks. Halmstad's performance was not great but not terrible either.. The final score flatters Mjällby to some extent.. The expected goals (xG) numbers were 1.56-0.52 in Mjällby's favour.
