La Dea, who have been away all season so far only have one win!

Gianpiero Gasperini's Atalanta, who had only played away games so far, defeated Lecce 4-0 in the opening round at the Stadio Via del Mar. Expected goals (xG) were scratched for Nerazzurri 1.3-1.0 so they were also efficient and lucky in front of the attacking goal.

The league stage of the Champions League group games starts for La Dea already next Thursday, when Gasperini and his proteges face Arsenal at home at Gewiss Stadium and it has to be the match they are looking for, and leads to a lapse in concentration in this one.

There are mostly long-term injuries at Atalanta

La Dea will have to miss defenders Djimsiti, Sead Kolasinac and Giorgio Scalvini, the latter two of which have not yet been in real action this season. In the midfield, Ibrahim Sulemana and Nicolo Zaniolo are on the sidelines, both of whom entered the field as substitutes in the second period, the former against Lecce and the latter against Torino. Among the forwards, Gianluca Scamacca has missed all his early season games due to his knee injury.

La Viola only has draws on its record

Fiorentina, led by Raffaele Palladino, has opened its league season with three draws. First, a point came off as a guest of Parma at Stadio Ennio Tardini with a score of 1-1. In the second round, Palladino's proteges were staring at a goalless draw with another league riser, Venezia, in their home cave at Stadio Artemio Franchi. In their third game, Fiorentina already had to bow to Monza at home, but eventually managed to rise from two goals behind to level 2-2. Fiorentina won the shot count by 22-4 in this game!

Monza slipped to a two-goal runaway in the opening period with Milan Djuric's 18th and Daniel Maldini's 32nd-minute goals. Moise Kean made it 1-2 for Fiorentina with a header from Luca Ranieri's pass just before the break. The home team's equalizer also came in the very last moments of the game, when Robin Gosens headed in a perfect corner from Yacine Adli to make it 2-2 in the sixth minute of extra time.

Palladino's protégés have time to play the Serie A for the next couple of weeks in complete peace until the upcoming Conference League group games bring additional excitement to La Viola's games. It plays in six UECL league stage games against TNS, Paphos and LASK at home and St. Gallen, APOEL and Guimaraes away. It will be a busy autumn for Fiorentina too

Only the long-term injured Icelandic striker Albert Gudmundsson is sure to be sidelined from La Viola.

The smell of blood in the air!

For some reason, Fiorentina has often been a difficult nut to crack for Atalanta in recent seasons at home in both Serie A and Coppa Italia games at Gewiss Stadium, because of the five previous matches on that stage, La Viola has managed to defeat the Bergamo side three times. When La Dea is also missing several key players from the roster this time, Gasperini has a lot to digest for his guests and the Florentines may very well take some new ones with them from their trip.
