Dragan Stojkovic's Serbia managed to hold on to a goalless draw with European Championship winners in the summer, Spain.

Serbia also played consistent games in the European Championships, but even that was not enough to finish in jumbo place in their group as the Serbians went without a win. The only loss Stojkovic's proteges suffered was against group winner England (0-1), while the defeated Serbs played against Slovenia (1-1) and Denmark (0-0). The only goal for the Serbs against the Slovenians was completed by Jovic from Torino's midfield wizard Ivan Ilic.

At the World Cup in Qatar a couple of years ago, Serbia was once again left as the jumbo of its group and again it was left without a win. The only point came from a draw against Cameroon (3-3), while defeats were suffered by Brazil (0-2) and Switzerland (2-3), who were hurt in the group. Aleksandar Mitrovic, who was still playing in Fulham at the time and now earns his living in Al-Hilal, scored two for the Serbs, Strahinja Pavlovic, who has since moved from Salzburg to AC Milan, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who switched from Lazio to Al-Hilal, and Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic scored one.
