The Czechs also generated much more in expected goals (xG).  Sparta had a substantial edge over the visitors in all areas of the game.. Their players' individual skill level was from another planet compared to that of the Shamrock Rovers players. Against FCSB the situation is totally different, of course. In the 2nd leg at epet ARENA Sparta Prague took a 4-2 win as very big favourites. They recorded eight shots on target – the visitors managed only three. Sparta basically did what was expected from them but the opponent was so poor that I will not give these two matches too much emphasis.. In fact, Shamrock are having a significantly worse season than usual and are only in 5th place in the lowly Irish Premier Division.. They have 38 points in their pocket Shelbourne, who top the standings, have taken 10 points more! The best Czech teams, Sparta Prague and Slavia Prague – and in some seasons, Plzen, too– are better than the best Romanian teams – more specifically FCSB and Cluj - but as a whole the Romanian Liga is only marginally worse – and often underestimated in the football media - than Czech Chance Liga. In Romania the teams outside the top-3 or better on average than in the Chance Liga.. As a result, FCSB get to play more at least to some extent balanced matches throughout the season than Sparta Prague.. This benefits them in demanding international games. Both leagues started in July and four rounds have been played so far. FCSB defeated the champion from 2023, Farul Constanța, in their last game 3-2 at home – despite some squad rotation. They were excellent, recording 23 goal attempts! They also recorded many more shots on goal (8-2), shots off goal (11-5), corner kicks, attacks and dangerous attacks than Farul. The Romanians played very well in the 2nd round of qualification – defeating a very capable Israeli team, Maccabi Tel Aviv, 2-1 on aggregate. FCSB were the underdogs before the first leg – priced around 2.20-2.40 to qualify by the bookmakers. This was definitely too high! The first leg in Bucharest was a 1-1 draw but FCSB were the much better team on the pitch!  Indeed, they recorded more goal attempts (16-7), shots on target (7-2), shots off target, corner kicks and dangerous attacks. FCSB emerged victorious in the 2nd leg at Bozsik Arena in Budapest 1-0 despite being solid underdogs on the betting market! Israeli teams cannot play international games in Israel because of the ongoing violence between Israel and Hamas. To sum up, FCSB played well and deserved to qualify! I raised their power rating after these two games. For clarification, this rating reflects the teams' pure class with the best possible starting lineup – excluding the motivation factor as well as the possible fatigue – caused by a demanding schedule. Let's also not forget that Tel Aviv made it all the way to the UEFA Conference League 1/8-finals last season, losing to the eventual champions, a strong Greek team, Olympiakos, 5-7 on aggregate.. Tel Aviv even won the first leg 4-1 in Greece qw big underdogs. Between the two games against Tel Aviv, FCSB suffered a defeat to Otelul 0-2 at home. It was, however, an extremely unlucky defeat. Indeed, FCSB were the much better team on the pitch, recording 19 goal attempts.. They also recorded many more shots on goal and shots off target – 9-1 -as well as generated much more in xG than Otelul!

Sparta Prague do have a lot of experience of playing in UEFA's club competitions' group stages. Indeed, last season they even qualified for the UEFA Europa League Playoffs but Liverpool humiliated them 11-2 on aggregate – proving that Sparta are, after all, far from the top-level of European football.. Sparta Prague are the reigning champions of Czechia. They won the (at the time) Fortuna Liga with 87 points to their account last season. However, their number of expected points (xPTS) was somewhat lower.. They scored 82 goals and conceded only 30 goals.
