The Allsvenskan is back from a break and I see IFK Goteborg favorite here. Both teams are near to the relegation zone but Goteborg has quality to be at least in the top half of the table.

Varnamo is one of the worst teams in the league, with a poor squad and whose main target is to avoid relegation. They did well so far with 14 points, 2 above relegation. They still need some transfers to improve the level of the team. They recently signed Austrian defender Steinwender and midfielder Luke Le Roux from Volendam, who is a very good addition as he already played in the Allsvenskan with Varbergs.

Their best player is striker Gustav Engvall, although he is in poor form with only 2 goals in 12 games. Their topscorer and main threat upfront at the moment is Kalu Johnbosco, who is clearly over performing in my opinion as he has been playing his whole career in lower categories in Sweden.

Starter striker Frank Adjei is suspended for this fixture.

During this break they played a friendly against Hammarby and drew 2:2, showing again that they are an offensive team and also takes risks in defense playing the ball.

On the other hand, Goteborg hired a new couple of coaches: Stefan Billborn and Joachim Björklund. They are well known from his previous experience in Hammarby, where made a good job playing offensive and high pressing. This could be the key against a team like Varnamo who makes mistakes in defense when they receive a high pressing.

Goteborg has much more potential and surely will be very active in the transfer market. Especially because their best player and one of the best players in the league - midfielder Yalcouye, is expected to be signed by Brighton for a lot of money. Probably he won’t play this fixture to avoid injuries.

I’m expecting a reaction by Goteborg with the new coaches. They have a much better squad than Varnamo, with more quality and should be able to prove that, adding also the “new coach” effect which always is a good boost for the teams.

Varnamo has been a very vulnerable team in the midfield and defense, conceding many chances, especially because they have more quality upfront with players like Zeljkovic, Engvall… But Goteborg is a more balanced team with more quality in defense, and surely will improve with the new managers. They played well recently and I expect them to at least avoid the defeat here.

This is the classic “6 points game” that Goteborg need to win if they want to avoid the same problems as they had last season, where they were close to being relegated. For me they have one of the 5 best teams in the league and it’s unacceptable to see them in this relegation positions.

I expect an entertaining game between two offensive teams, as Varnamo will attack as always, especially playing at home. However, I don’t see them able to keep the goal to nil given their poor defense and quality upfront in the Goteborg side. This match could finish with a draw but if some team wins, I believe that guests will do it as they have a better team and more potential.
