Athletic is my favorite for this Cup Final.

Both teams are very motivated as this title is a huge motivation for them: Athletic haven’t won it since 1984 and Mallorca only won two in their history, the last one in 2002.

However, Athletic looks the favorite here. They have been at a super high level this season, playing with a lot of intensity, quality, scoring a lot of goals and generating many chances. They have found different ways to create danger, always based on their intensity and fast football: from the wings, with set pieces, dribbling from their quality wingers… And have found a reliable scorer in Guruzeta, who has scored 15 goals this season so far.

Their position in La Liga (5th and just two points below Atletico who is 4th) is the best example of their level during this season, with only 6 defeats in the league. In the Cup they managed to beat Barcelona 4:2 and Atletico Madrid winning both fames (1:0 and 0:3).

If they keep the same level shown during the season, and I have no doubts about that, will be very difficult for Mallorca to compete here and win this title.

Mallorca is a weak team, whose target is to avoid relegation. They have had a poor season but were lucky in the Cup, where beat Girona (suffering a lot) and Real Sociedad (in penalties), whilst previously had very easy rivals.

In La Liga they are 15th with only 6 victories in 30 rounds, which is the best example of their poor performance and low level this season.

Their attack has been the main concern. Muriqi, their best striker and key player, have been injured and also is at a worse level than previous years, and his replacement Larin is missing a lot of chances. If we add the fact that Mallorca isn’t a team who generates a lot of chances during the games, we can see that they have one of the worst attacks in the league with only 25 goals scored in 30 rounds.

The plan of Mallorca will be the same as always, it’s very clear: be defensive, very close lines of 5 defenders and 4 midfielders, keep Muriqi upfront and send him long balls to fight with defenders, keep the ball, and create chances or counters through him. Also set pieces will be important for Mallorca, where they are strong.

However, Athletic knows very well how to defend this kind of teams, as they are also a very strong team in set pieces and have good central backs.

Mallorca will try to keep the goal to nil in order to stay alive in the game. They’ll try to make it as long as possible, even with ET or penalties. Athletic must be patient, keep a high pace and make fast football to find spaces in a defense which will have a lot of players, very few spaces and have experience playing this kind of football.

But this is what Athletic is accustomed to find when they play at home, as the majority of teams do the same. And their home balance this season has been 11/3/1. As said, Athletic has many alternatives to attack this season.

This will be a very tight game, very similar to the one that Mallorca played against Real Sociedad in the previous round. However, Athletic has a much better attack than Real Sociedad, with more options and ways to attack, so I see them able to find the chances and the goal.

Athletic already destroyed Mallorca 4:0 in their recent league game, whilst playing away in September ‘23 drew 0:0 in a very equal game but they were in a worse form as are now.

Athletic has more quality and is my favorite to win this title.

然而，竞技非常清楚如何防守这种球队，因为他们在定位球方面也是一支非常强大的球队，并且拥有出色的中卫。
