Fredrikstad is back to the Eliteserien after more than 10 years in the lower categories. They achieved the promotion last season after an impressive campaign in the second division, finishing leaders with only 2 defeats and 23 goals conceded in the whole season.

Last year they were a solid defensive team and as they kept the same coach and structure, most probably will do the same this year in the Eliteserien. However, it won’t be easy as they have one of the worst squads in the league.

They made very few transfers, the squad is almost the same (which means 2nd division level). Signed some players from the third division, such as the young goalkeeper Fischer Jonathan from Hobro, and achieved some loans from strong Eliteserien teams, including from Bodo/Glimt - Kjaer Jeppe, a midfielder who will be one of their best players this season for sure.

On the other hand, Bodo/Glimt are the current league champions and the main title contenders this season. They have the best squad in the league, have won 3 of the last 4 titles and have a very strong team.

They kept the same squad and coach, who is great and has great chemistry with the players. Made some interesting changes in the squad, selling last season’s topscorer Pellegrino to San Jose Earthquakes (MLS) but adding great players such as Jens Petter Hauge from Eintracht Frankfurt (who will be one of the best players in the whole Eliteserien for sure), or Hakon Evjen from Brondby.

During their preseason they played in the Conference League, where they lost in ⅛ finals against Ajax in extra-time. Those games were good to test the team and play competitive games, and not only friendlies.

The quality difference is huge here. Bodo/Glimt best player - midfielder Albert Gronbaek has a value (10MM Euros) higher than the whole Fredrikstad team (7.7MM Euros).

Fredrikstad will approach a defensive system, they’ll be very motivated and will have home support. However, they have one of the worst teams in the league and won’t be easy to keep the goal to nil against the best team in the league, especially upfront where Bodo/Glimt has a lot of individual quality, pace and young players with good dribbling ability who can score goals easily.

Last season Bodo/Glimt played very good games against the relegation teams as visitor, beating Stabaek 0:4 or Valerenga 2:4 for example.
