LIVERPOOL - ARSENAL

Both teams go into this one very evenly matched with Arsenal ahead by 1 point but Liverpool ahead on goal difference by just one goal and both in the same run of form in their last 5 games – 3 wins, one draw and one loss.

Liverpool really disappointed me last time out vs Manchester United. Whilst plaudits must go to how United set up and stifled Liverpool, I never really felt Liverpool went for the kill vs a United side who were there for the taking.

In previous years we would have seen this Liverpool side swarm United, whom were trying to play out from the back, but they allowed their rivals to silence the Anfield crowd and get the better of Liverpool, especially in the midfield which I think will be a key area for the game on Saturday.

Liverpool are short in midfield with injuries to - Gravenberch / Mac Allister / Thiago / Bajčetić whilst the fit players Endo, Jones, Elliot, and, are all struggling for a bit of form/consistency in recent weeks, to match the ever improving Szoboszlai, who has been exceptional so far this season. Endo especially looks like a player who is still coming to terms with the Premier League.

Also struggling for a bit of form are Liverpool’s forward players. A couple of months ago it was the case of everyone scoring across the league and Europa league but with Gakpo and Diaz without a goal in 7 and Darwin without a goal in 11, the onus has fallen to Mo Salah the ever-constant provider. To compete with Arsenal and City and sustain the chase they are going to need all the players across those forward positions to chip in with goals on a consistent basis.

Klopp tried to and rested a few key players like Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Konate and Diaz in the midweek game which shows you how importantly he is taking the weekend fixture. On the flip side Mikel Arteta was able to have a full week off with his players which makes me think this Arsenal team will be ready for this game.

Also on the flip side is the form of Arsenals midfield. I said above that I think this where the game will be won on the weekend, and I feel Arsenal’s midfield are a little hotter at the moment. Rice has been imperious this season, what a bargain he was at 100 million. Odegaard is always consistent and Kai Havertz, in recent weeks has had a good spell with 4 goals in his last 7 games. I’ve always believed he is a good player from watching him at Chelsea, but with this new role in midfield due to injuries to Partey and Jorginho he has really started to show his worth to this Arsenal team.

Another Arsenal player we know is worth his weight in gold to this side is Saka. With 10 goal involvements in 18 games versus the Merseyside teams in his short career so far I think he will fancy stealing the show up against Tsimikas at the weekend and I can see him being a real thorn in Liverpool’s side with a goal or two.

Arsenal haven’t won at Anfield since 2012 when their current manager was playing for the club, but with the midweek rest and a slightly more injury fee and in form squad I think that just gives the gunners the edge in this one. Will be a close encounter but an away win to see Arsenal top at Christmas for the second season in a row is more likely for me.

FROSINONE - JUVENTUS

Frosinone surprised everyone with a disproportionate victory at the "Maradona" stadium in Naples, humiliating the home team.
