Those reports came at the backend of a brutal 1-0 defeat to Newcastle despite being the league’s most in form team. Manchester United has not won an away game against a big six team since the club saw the back of former manager and cult hero Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Then I thought Chelsea could cause United a few issues in the game midweek, but United totally outplayed them winning 2:1 with a penalty missed and 4.11 expected goals generated. McTominay made a great performance and has been probably the best player of the season so far for the Red Devils.
After that crucial win they are now 6th on the table, level on points with Tottenham and three points below TOP4.
Rashford could be another important player for this fixture, after being rested against Chelsea. He is an exciting player and the kind that they love to see at Old Trafford, tricky wingers who make you sit on the edge of your seat when they get the ball. He has obviously been around the first team for the last few seasons now but seems to be coming into his own and I think could cause Bournemouth issues at the weekend as we know their full backs like to play high.
On the other hand, Bournemouth made a terrible start of the season in the first 11 games (1/3/7), but they have picked up some form themselves and are unbeaten in 4 games. They are showing signs of a team coming together and a manager who’s had to be patient with how he wants to play come to fruition.
They want to play on the front foot and press teams high up the pitch to win the ball back in dangerous areas which is why the players that play in those 4 forward positions have real youth and speed. It’s important that when you win that ball back you can find end product and with 9 goals in their last 4 games this Bournemouth team is proving they can punish you when it matters.
They are in a quiet position, 7 points above relegation and they are lucky because the relegation rivals (Sheffield, Luton, Burnley, Everton) are performing really bad and struggling to achieve points.
United will have to make sure they double up in wide positions when out of possession as his pace can be a real threat to teams. Playing away, Bournemouth has been totally outplayed by top teams (3:1 Liverpool, 6:1 Manchester City, 3:1 Brighton).
Whilst I think Bournemouth can pose a threat to Man United, I just think with home advantage and the players they have at their disposal United will find a way to just edge it. Last season United won both games - 0:1 and 3:0.
