Two sleeping giants collide in Ligue 1 this Wednesday. Marseille dominated Ligue 1 during the late 1980s and early 1990s, winning four straight league titles and a Champions League title in addition. In recent years, they have also done relatively well, and have often been one of the strongest teams behind PSG in France, but now they are in ninth place in the table. They have gone from one hard-line coach to another – from Marcelino to Gattuso – but that's not what they want right now.Marseille have at least two straight victories behind them. First there was a win against Ajax with 4-3, after veteran striker Aubameyang decided on a penalty in extra time, and then they won against Rennes with 2-0 at the weekend. Now you face a team that is really in crisis, in the form of Lyon.

Lyon won the league seven years in a row but in recent years they have not been so lucky and the last two seasons have ended in eighth and seventh place. Now they are last(!) in the table, and come from two straight losses. Coach Grosso was sacked after the first, and Sage began his Lyon stay with the loss of the second. Both teams are underperforming but I see Marseille as favourites here. There is a big rivalry between supporters from these two clubs, so Lyon will have a "hell"welcome at Velodrome.Marseille looks little bit better right now so I expect home win here.
