Both teams gave perspectives of finishing in the Top Six but now there is a bit of a gap between themselves and the play-offs. The turnaround of Reading was especially quick. It seems that yesterday they were still there amongst the best in-form teams.

Cardiff are out of the hunt now. Considering the poor start of the season, it is a natural end, but Mick McCarthy still wants to end the season at a decent position. He is now looking at the U23s and trying to launch a pair of youngsters.
