Granada CF VS Mallorca

Granada welcome visitors from the island of Mallorca this LaLiga round 3 clash at Estadio Nuevo Los Cármenes  early Sunday morning Beijing time. This is the second-best league on the planet. My fans and I have enjoyed very good long-term profits betting on LaLiga and we have yet another very interesting betting opportunity here! Football fans and us serious, profit-hungry football bettors can expect a game of lower than average level by LaLiga standards between these two teams. As the season has only recently kickoff it is important to look at the last season when analyzing this game. Granada are a newly promoted team and I expect a very difficult season. They will most probably be relegated back to LaLiga2 for next season! Last season they were a little better than I would have expected before the season started. They did win the LaLiga standings last season but were not clearly the best team in this league. Winning LaLiga2 does not impress me at all ahead of this game! The difference between LaLiga and LaLiga 2 is massive. Granada are in last  place in my power rating that reflects the teams' pure class with the best possible starting eleven. It is hard to write anything overly positive about them. Even their fans are not too great by LaLiga standards. Yes, the home advantage on average is bigger in LaLiga than in any other big European League. I need to mention the well-known ”newly promoted boost” that is at its biggest in home games but the atmosphere in Granada's first game was not great. They lost to Rayo Vallecano 0-2 after a bad performance. The bookies expected a very balanced game but it was not! The visitors generated 2.12 in expected goals (xG) – Granada managed just 1.01. The visitors also recorded more goal attempts, shots on goal, shots off goal and corner kicks. In the opening round Atletico Madrid crushed Granada 3-1 after recording 2.72 in xG – Granada managed just 0.65. 

Granada are a small team in terms of financial resources and players total market value. According to a reliable and well-known source German website, Transfermarkt.com. Their squad has an estimated total market value of just 51.50 million. This is a very low number by LaLiga standards – but still too high.  Three of their players are overvalued. I would set the number at 42-43 million. Mallorca's players, on the other hand, have a total market value of 100.30 million. This is too low in my expert opinion. 122-123 million would be a more accurate number.  Mallorca finished in 9th place last season and took 50 points and were a very positive surprise! I must admit that I - along with many other LaLiga experts  -  perhaps underestimated them before the 2022-2023 season started. Their number of xPTS was  – 52.11. Their offense was not great and they recorded just 37 goals. Their number of xG was bigger though -  41.02. Even so, it is true that they played pretty boring football.. Football fans and bettors often hate watching and betting on teams like Mallorca - and prefer offensive teams instead. This does have an effect on the odds.. The same phenomenon can, in fact, be seen in basketball and ice-hockey as well - especially in the US leagues.  Mallorca's offense does indeed have its limitations – especially in terms of offensive creativity and the ability to break a solid defensive formation. Luckily for them, Granada is not really this kind of a team.  Mallorca can improve a little in this area of the game - but not much. Their defense was stunningly well-structured last season and the midfielders actively took part in defending. They allowed  just 43 goals and I expect them to be stronger in this area of the game than the bookies think this season as well! It will probably be a demanding task for Mallorca to make it to the top-10 this season but they should be the solid favorites here against a lowly, out-of-form and low-in- confidence opponent! Even the biggest bookies that accept the biggest bets from customers have made a very clear error with their odds as they offer Granada odds of just around 2.80 to win. This is massively too low! We will go for Mallorca +0.5 goals handicap with a 75% chance of winning. In the opening round they faced Las Palmas away from home and it was a pretty balanced clash as a whole - final score was 1-1. Mallorca recorded 1.54 in xG – the hosts managed 0.89. They were underdogs in this game – priced around 3.50 to win the game. This was yet another example of Mallorca being undervalued by the bookies! In their most recent match they were a little disappointing at home against Villarreal losing 0-1. Their defense was okay and they allowed just three shots on goal. I want to highlight that Villarreal are a big team, 5th in my power rating, and played a better than average game.
