Both sides claimed 1-0 home wins, with Tobol progressing with a 6-5 victory in the shootout. Meanwhile, Viktoria Plzen dispatched Sigma Olomouc with a 2-1 comeback home win. Jurah Chvatal had put Sigma ahead in the 27th minute, but Lukas Hedja and Pavel Bucha scored first-half injury time goals and held on to the lead in the second half to help Plzen claim maximum points. The Czech outfit booked their spot in the Conference League playoffs with a 6-0 aggregate win over Gzira in the third qualifying round. A 4-0 home win was followed by a 2-0 victory in Malta. I am expecting a win or a draw for Tobol for the following reasons:

Firstly. Tobol’s so far display in the ECL match-ups have looked average and not very inspiring. Although they managed to progress till the finals, their victories have not look that convincing too. The team won the previous round to qualify for this final round on penalties, and the round before that with a tight 4-3 scoreline. They have had an inconsistent form of late, recording only one win in their last six outings in all competitions. Where they have bee very consistent is at their home ground. They have made it very difficult to be beaten at their home ground, and this consistency is what gives them an edge in this game.

Secondly. Plzen are actually having a stunning form across all competitions of late. They won their last six matches in a row and lost just once in the past 17 matches in all competitions. Plzen might be having a good run of form presently, but have been leaking goals consistently on the road. The team allowed a total of 6 goals in the last five road games.

Plzen have overcome a shaky start to the season to win six games on the bounce across competitions. That will put them in a confident frame of mind heading into the tie. But, irrespective of Tobol’s struggles of late, they have remained formidable at their home ground, and expect Plzen to struggle here. So, it is a win or a draw for Tobol for me.
