The second round of 2023-24 edition of La Liga is rounding up as Granada lock horns with an impressive Rayo Vallecano side in an important clash at the Estadio los Carmenes on Monday night. Firstly. Rayo Vallecano finished the previous season in 11th place and the ambitions in this one are very similar. They will try to finish in the upper half of the table and ensure survival as comfortably as possible. Rayo made a strong start to this year's campaign as they easily won away from home against Almeria. Rayo Vallecano have been the dominant force in the recent history of this match-up against Granada. They are on a nine-match unbeaten streak and won seven of those. Granada have not actually beaten Rayo in Spain's top flight since December 2013, but the points were shared in a 2-2 draw in the corresponding match during the 2021-22 season.

Secondly. Granada were relegated from La Liga at the end of the 2021-22 campaign, but they secured a return to the top level at the first time of asking, winning the 2022-23 Segunda Division. However, the opening game of their return to La Liga was not positive in terms of results. Granada lost on the road against Atletico Madrid, who dominated them completely. During the preparatory period, they won all preseason matches except the last one in which they lost against Almeria. So, they may just have enough in their tank to scrape a result here.

Granada have not had much success against Rayo in the last 5 to 10 years, and they have not managed to win against the team from the suburbs of Madrid in the last nine matches. Certainly, Granada is a very good home team, but Rayo showed in the last match that it can be a good guest. As two of the last three La Liga meetings between these two teams have finished all square, I will be expecting this one to be a win or a draw for Rayo Vallecano.
