Mjallby travel to Studenternas IP to take on Sirius IK in a league match in the Sweden Allsvenskan on Monday night. Two points separate both teams in the league table as Mjallby sit on the 10th position with 19 points from 15 games. They know that they could make a massive move up the Swedish Allsvenskan table with a win over Sirius. On the other hand, Sirius sit two places further below on the 12th position in the league table with 17 points from same number of games as their current opponents. They were victorious in their last outing when they beat relegation-zoned Goteborg 3-0 to break out of their two games losing streak. Meanwhile, Mjallby lost 2-1 to highly-placed Norrkoping in their last game after a spirited outing. They pushed Norrkoping till the dying minute, and were just unlucky not to get a point at least from the game. Sat in the bottom-half of the league table, both Sirius and Mjallby are aiming for a victory this week to pull clear of the drop zone. The pair are three and five points clear of the bottom three respectively albeit with two games in hand. For this encounter, I am expecting a win or a draw for the away side for the following reasons:

Firstly. Sirius know they can leapfrog Mjallby with a victory, but they have so far failed to match up to the sides who are above them in the table. It is only a recent uptick in form that has dragged Christer Mattiasson's side out of the relegation mix, having won four of their last six league games, keeping three clean sheets in the process. Mjallby won 3-0 when these two sides met earlier this season and the visitors could pile onto the hosts’ issues to push for a win against them. Sirius have lost two of their last three games and they head into this clash having lost four of their five meetings at home to sides above them in the table.

Secondly. Mjallby have not been that solid in this current campaign. However they have performed fairly well against teams above and below them in the league table compared to their current opponents. They have won four and drawn two against the six sides below them in the standings, including winning two from two on the road against them. They have also been impressive defensively, having conceded only 16 goals so far this term, the fewest of any team outside of the top three, and for that reason they have not been dragged into the relegation battle.

The two teams are almost evenly-matched based on their respective positions in the table. And, as games involving Mjallby AIF are very rarely high-scoring affairs, given their stellar defensive record and their low scoring record as well, this game is most likely to end in a draw. But, if per chance anyone is going to get a win from the game, it is going to be them as well.
