VANCOUVER WHITECAPS - LOS ANGELES GALAXY

Vancouver have been inconsistent lately, winning two and losing two of their past four games, so you never know which version will turn up. This season they have not been able to make two wins in a row yet. Now they are coming from a deserved victory against Austin 2:1.

With just one goal in his last five league matches, striker Brian White is not in great scoring form, but I think his all-round game benefits the team. As the focal point of the attack, he holds the ball up well, bringing others into play, while he’s also assisted two goals in the past two games. But it’s Ryan Gauld who I consider their most important player, having scored six goals in eight games in all competitions, and provided a number of assists. Like Costa, his left foot is so effective, so Vancouver will also be a threat from set-pieces.

Defensively they are struggling, not being able to keep the goal to nil in their last 7 games.

On the other hand, after a terrible start to the season with 7 games winless, LA Galaxy are unbeaten in their last seven league games and I think will be confident ahead of a trip to Vancouver Whitecaps.

The Galaxy have won their past two games against Philadelphia and LAFC, with Riqui Puig in midfield and Tyler Boyd up front being exceptional, both of them scoring in each match.

Puig, in particular, is in great form and I feel his ability to carry the ball forward, make runs into the box from deep and create chances for others have played a big part in the Galaxy’s revival in recent weeks. And Douglas Costa has also really upped his game. For me, the Brazilian is one of the best crossers in the MLS, so I expect the Galaxy to be dangerous from set-pieces here.

The team has quality and potential to make more goals (they have only 23 so far) and to be in higher positions on the table, so I’m pretty sure that sooner or later they’ll go up. Must remember that last season ended 4th and lost in the playoffs against the Champions Los Angeles FC.

For Vancouver this will be their third game in a week, while Galaxy had rest days since last weekend. Physically guests will be one step above, while hosts will have fatigue because they played with their starter lineup in the midweek game against Austin.

I think this will be a tight and close game, with goals and chances for both teams, but for me it is almost a 50-50. Both have the same quality, Galaxy has potential to improve and Vancouver has more fatigue.

DEGERFORS - SIRIUS

Degerfors’ season has not been amazing so far, but they did what they had to do: a mid table team, out of relegation. At home is where they have been performing better, winning 11 of the 14 points they have in total.

They ended their five game winless streak last week by beating Brommapojkarna 2-1. Johan Martensson and Erik Lindell turned the game around with two goals in the last eight minutes of the game. An undeserved victory but much needed to break their losing run. The win means they are 13th in the table, just above the relegation zone, four points ahead of AIK Solna having played one fewer game.

Their defense is a problem, with 37 goals conceded so far and 25 as visitors, the worst numbers in the Allsvenskan. To solve this, they have signed two defenders: Douglas Berqvist (free transfer) and Martensson. Both played a good game in the victory against Brommapojkarna, and even Martensson scored one goal. They have experience and surely will be a big boost for the team and the defense.

Degerfors have lost their main striker Vukojevic for injury for the whole season, but recently signed a replacement from the Superettan - Pashan Abdulla, who scored 8 goals in the first 12 rounds with Jonkoping. Key midfielder Ramsus Orqvist is available again for this fixture after suspension.

On the other hand, Sirius is another mid-table team with irregular performances. They have the same points as Degerfors (with one less game played), and the same amount of goals scored - only 16.
