I have discussed Barcelona several times this year, and they have simply brilliant in 90 % of the time, clearly among the best European teams and performance the number one in Spain. Coach Koeman has overcome the injuries, changed into a new format with 3 defenders, put young players Pedri, Mingueza and a few others into key positions and given them responsibilty which they have happily taken. He has given Frenkie De Jong the freedom he needs, unless he has needed as a centre back. There was talk about Messi getting old and not as good as he was in his prime, but the truth is that he has been better than ever before and the co-operation with Alba works as a miracle. Dest on the right flank has found his self-confidence on right flank and he is attacking threat, and Busquets has returned as well to top level. Dembele is excellent in 1-on-1 situations, and there is even no need for Griezmann to deliver!
Barcelona at home of course is even normally a very likely home win and it is always only about the handicap, they have beaten this handicap 4 times out of last 6 at Camp Nou.
As Barcelona are out of CL after some unlucky occasions with PSG they can - and will - concentrate fully in winning La Liga which seemed lost by Christmas, and Atletico's loss last night gives them another boost.
At Barcelona there are no new injuries, but at Valladolid there are 12 players out due different reasons, including Covid which keeps 5 of them out. So the international break which they were expecting to do them a lot of good was the opposite, no rest, no training with full squad.
Last round's match v Sociedad was the best of Barcelona all season, and they deserved fully their 1-6 win against the new cup winners, and in a way the break for Barcelona came at the bad time. Most of their players were out in international duty, some of them played full 270 like De Jong, but they already showed what they can do under pressure.
Valladolid has not lost this big so far this season so naturally there is a shadow of doubt, but this is perfect time for it to happen. This handicap is never a sure winner, but the class difference of the these teams today is the biggest there has been this season in La Liga.
