JJK vs KuPS

JJK welcome visitors from Kuopio for this Finnish Cup 1/16-finals clash at Harjun Stadion Arena in Jyväskylä late Wednesday evening Beijing time. He won the championship with KuPS back in 2019. KuPS then went on to win six games in a row and played well. Even so, they did have some luck in some games as well. As a result, they became too hot on the betting market. Even so, they are in the fight for the championship this season despite being ”only” in third place in the Veikkausliiga standings.

 In their most recent match KuPS lost to SJK 0-1 away from home. SJK had 65% ball possession and recorded more goal attempts, shots on and off goal as well as attacks. KuPS were not bad by any means but the loss may still have hit their confidence and ”winning flow” a bit. They have won the Finnish Cup many times but I believe this season they will put their focus on Veikkausliiga and of course try to make something happen in the UEFA Conference League qualification. They have a tough game scheduled for Saturday in Veikkausliiga against Haka – an important game! The Finnish Cup is not very important for KuPS as the winner gets a prize of only 50 000 euros and a ticket to the Conference qualification for next season. However, KuPS will qualify for this almost certainly anyway - 98% probability or so. They have a strong starting eleven + 3-4 strong players on the bench. However, they lack a star striker at the moment and have not scored three goals in one game since the 14th of January when they beat Kuopion Elo, a very bad amateur team, 6-1 in a friendly game. Honkavaara will probably rotate the squad - possibly even heavily – today. Even so, KuPS have close to 80% chance of winning during the 90 minutes of play. The odds on them as only around 1.12 on the betting market at the time of writing this preview Tuesday evening Beijing time and that is too low!

JJK were promoted to Ykkönen from Kakkonen, third tier, for this season. They have had a slow start to the season and have five points to their account. However, their number of expected points (xPTS) is 7.45. This is a massive game for them and a good number of fans are expected to be cheering for JJK today. The weather is fine and JJK are a traditional club that has even played in Veikkausliiga in the past. They have lost two games in a row now. Ekenäs, a very strong team in Ykkönen, currently in 2nd place, beat JJK in Tammisaari four days ago 3-0 but the match was more balanced than the final score would suggest. Before this JJK were unlucky to lose to KåPa at home 1-2. They had 53% ball possession and recorded more goal attempts, shots on goal as well as attacks and dangerous attacks. They have an excellent chance of avoiding losing by more than a margin of two goals!
