Inter Turku host IFK Mariehamn for this Finnish Veikkausliiga battle at Veritas Stadion Monday evening Beijing time. Inter must be very eager to win the first game and we must also remember that the visitors have a long journey from the island of Åland which is located between Finland and Sweden. They are usually very bad on the road and have lost both away games this season as well allowing four goals in these two matches.

 Last season IFF Mariehamn often defended very well – relying mostly on counter attacks, corner kicks and free kicks to score. This season, however, their defense has been very leaky and they have allowed 11 goals – the highest number in Veikkausliiga. They took the win on the 13th of this month at home over Haka, a mediocre team, but did not deserve it. In the Finnish Cup they have taken a few wins lately but the opponents PPJ and KoiPS are very low-level amateur teams. Inter too, beat, took a win over Tampere United, in the Finnish cup last week. They, too, are an amateur team but have some decent players. Inter's 3-0 away win was a good performance taking into account their coach rotated the squad. Before this they were beaten by HJK, in Helsinki, the best team in Finland, but the final score is misleading. Inter were good in the first half and were leading 1-0 at halftime. They also had a chance to make it 2-2 but did not find the net. The final score was 4-1 for the big favorites HJK but Inter do not have to be ashamed of their performance. Inter have faced only top-4 teams (HJK, SJK and KuPS) and a pretty good team Ilves in Veikkausliiga so far. In the opening round they beat KuPS 2-1 away from home - a fine performance! They have a clear edge over the visitors here and have a 66% chance to take all three points!
