Getafe host Almeria at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez in round 31 matches of La Liga on Wednesday night. Both sides are in a heated fight to avoid the drop from the Spanish top flight. Getafe are currently placed on 16th place in the league standings after 30 games played. They are only a point ahead of Valencia who are occupying the last spot of the relegation zone on 30 points. Meanwhile, Almeria are a place below Getafe on 17th place in the league standings after same number of games played. They are level on points with Valencia; and are only ahead of them in position because of their superior head to head record. Almeria were beaten 2-1 in their last outing by Athletic Club. While Getafe were well beaten 3-1 by Mallorca in their last weekend match. This is most likely going to be a draw game; but I will be giving a slight edge of a likely win to Almeria for the following reasons:

Firstly. Getafe are in a terrible state of form presently, as they have only been able to pick two points from the possible 12 points since the International break. They have only won a game from their last six La Liga games, drawing three of them. They picked up about 12 points between February and March as they pushed for survival, but that was never going to be enough as they have been playing poorly since then. Almeria are in a similar form as Getafe. They have only won a game from their last six games, drawing two of them, and losing the rest. They have not kept any clean sheet since the turn of the year, with their only clean sheet coming in February in their famous win over Barcelona.

Secondly. Getafe have had struggles with scoring goals throughout the season. Lack of creativity in the middle of the pack has been the major hindrance to their attack. And they will be without their Uruguayan midfielder, Mauro Arambarri, who is out injured with an ankle injury. Almeria on the other hand do have a penchant for conceding goals, but have scored relatively higher number of goals so far.

Getafe and Almeria are in very similar form recently, and should be evenly matched. Almeria will try to break their duck of not having yet won any away game this season, and put in a performance of worthy note. On this note, I am expecting a win or a draw for Almeria from this encounter.
