CSKA is coming from a victory against Fakel 2:0 in their last round, achieving the third victory in a row (league games) and winning all of them to nil - 4:0 against Kamara, 1:0 vs Zenit and 0:2 vs Voronezh.

They now are seated 4th on the table, with strong home performances especially in defense: just 8 goals conceded in 10 home games, and only Zenit (leader) with 6 goals has a better home record. And that’s not luck: Vladimir Fedotov team’s is performing very well in defense, especially in their last 3 games where only conceded 4 shots on target, including the game against leaders and best team of the league - Zenit.

They are now fighting for the 2nd position in the league and playing at the same level as they are lately, are totally able to do it. They are now 4 points below Spartak (one more game played) and 6 below Rostov.

On the other hand Khimki is the worst team in the league. They suffered their biggest defeat in the league last weekend where they lost 0:6 against Krasnodar (who was defeated 3:0 by CSKA in the Cup 1 month ago), which meant the fire of coach Goginev. Now they have a new coach but the squad is very poor and dont see them improving too much here.

They are winless in last 5 games, without scoring a single goal in 3 of them, and they have a serious problem in defense: with 47 goals conceded in just 21 games they can’t be competitive, as they are conceding always at least 2 goals in each game (as happened in 7 of their last 8 away games in the league).

They are 15th on the table, with the same points as bottom Torpedo, and with very poor performances.

Although we could see some changes or motivation in Khimki with the new coach, the quality difference is huge. CSKA is one of the most in-form teams since the winter break, while Khimki is for me the worst team in the league. CSKA will dominate the game, surely keep the goal to nil and hopefully find enough chances to score at least 2-3 goals.
