I had big hopes in the USA but in this game I see them with very few chances to beat England.

England made a fantastic opening game against Iran (6:2), in this kind of match where they struggle: against defensive teams who are parking the bus and leaving very few spaces behind. But surprisingly, England found many ways to break the solid iranian defence and beat them with authority.

Personally I don't trust them too much in this World Cup, but the team lately has always been close to win an international trophy and why not be close here too. In the World Cup 2018 reached the semi finals and in the Eurocup lost in penalties the final against Italy.

Their 2021 was fantastic, scoring more goals than any other national team in the world (including 39 in 10 qualifier games) and more goals to nil than anyone. 2022 was terrible with a 6 winless run (worst streak since 1993) but they broke it with the mentioned solid and impressive victory 6:2 over Iran.

They have shown time and again under Southgate that they have the firepower and the set-piece quality to thump most weaker opponents, like the USA.

On the other hand, the USA had a good game against Wales but made a mistake (maybe due to their inexperience): not controlling or killing the match and leaving it open, where Wales took advantage and achieved the draw in the second half. USA played a great game but weren’t able to control the match and dominate Wales.

That’s normal, they have the youngest team in this World Cup, and are lacking experience. We must remember that this is a team built to be ready for the next World Cup (USA 2026), and they achieved the ticket for this World Cup unexpectedly.

They have a problem upfront, where they are lacking goals. They don't have any strong striker and sometimes are lacking goals, as shown in the qualifiers scoring 21 goals in 14 games, followed by two friendlies against Japan (2:0) and Saudi Arabia (0:0) where they just made two shots on target.

This match should be good for England. They have much more quality and experience, and winning here will already qualify for ⅛ finals so I’m sure they will give their best. The next game against Wales will be much more difficult.

England is a team which struggles a lot against defensive teams (like Wales) - that’s why they are strong in set-pieces, and are one of the main ways to beat defensive teams.

But the USA is an offensive team. I already saw this in their previous games and even in the previous one against Wales; where even leading 1:0 continued playing offensively. This will be a gift for England, who has the pace and quality to take advantage of the spaces and kill the match if needed, scoring 2-3 goals. England has exciting young forwards who ooze attacking real, while USA has a weak defense without a leader (injured CB Miles Robinson has yet to be replaced).
