There are some important absentees at Real Sociedad side, but still the class difference is big enough to justify my -1.5 ahc pick for La Real. Here are the key facts and my thoughts:

But there still is top playmaker Silva among their attacking 5 players to feed Brais and Kubo into speed, and Sorloth has now to show why he was signed here, there have been a lot of expectations for this big and strong Norwegian who came from Red Bull Leipzig. Apart from Silva the most of the squad are still young and hungry, Kubo upfront is 21 and he has been talked about for years, now he is in a big club with better service than at Getafe or Mallorca. Yet, the most interesting player of the Sociedad side is likely coming off the bench, the 18 year old French striker Mohammed Cho! With his speed and one-on-one takes there are certainly a lot excite to follow, and he is one to follow this season.

Real Arena is a fortress even in the local league and defensively Sociedad are so solid that there will not be much work for Remiro to do. Result-wise the season start has not been a success, but there have tough opponents like Atletico and Barcelona, and the last game was ruined by the dramatic injury of Sadiq.

But how good or bad is Omonia. Would they stay in La Liga?

They qualified to this stage by beating Gent, home and away, but the first match in this group was a 0-3 loss to Sheriff! Money-wise they have a squad worth of 19 million Euros. In comparison to Spain it is a 1/3 of the budget of the smallest La Liga teams, and about the average of the Segunda teams. In the neighborhood of clubs like Villarreal reserves or UD Ibiza!

Now the money does not decide everything but it is a good indicator. Good individuals, top form or excellent coaching might narrow down the gap. Are there such things? They have lost both of their away games in the weak Cypriot league, won the one game at home narrowly, and can not be proud of their start.

The coach is a familiar name, Neil Lennon from Celtic, and it is no wonder to see some signings from the UK. Now the starting right back is 30 year old Mathews, from Charlton. I can expect a busy night for him with Kubo, Merino and Silva! The striker Bruno is not all bad, but if he is chosen to a be a sole striker as a centre-forward his talents are wasted as he would prefer to be a left-winger.

Well. Long story short. Sociedad do no usually win big as they are a 1-0 kind of winning team, but it is rare that they would meet a club of this size, at home, and with a good start in this competition after beating Man Utd away! They do have Espanyol at home in 3 days time and some rotation will be done at some point, but before that I believe this match is already decided. Not a guaranteed win here, but good value for me.
