IFK Mariehamn (MIFK) vs Inter Turku

I will not be fooled by the 1-5 loss MIFK suffered two weeks ago in the hands of Ilves at home. It was one of the weirdest matches – and perhaps the game with the most misleading final score - in Veikkausliiga this season. MIFK did play below their normal level in this match, especially at the start of the match and Ilves took a 2-0 lead after just five minutes. However, the ball possession was almost 50-50% and MIFK even recorded more attacks. I believe this result affects the odds too much here. In their most recent match MIFK got back on track beating FC Lahti away from home 2-0. Lahti too had their chances, but MIFK defended well and looked sharp on counterattacks. In reality, AC Oulu won the match 1-0 through Luquinhas’s goal in the 85th minute. Indeed, Inter were, once again very lame offensively despite playing with one man advantage for about 40 minutes as AC Oulu’s Sekajja was sent off. The totally lacked offensive creativity and passed the ball at a too slow tempo. Their offensive football was also way too predictable. Inter did beat the weakest team by a big margin in this league, HIFK, at in Helsinki in Finnish Cup 3-1 on Wednesday but it was, to my amazement, a relatively balanced match! Inter’s Accam, an experienced player from Ghana, set up the win for the visitors with two fine individual efforts – two goals in the second half. HIFK did however have many scoring chances and controlled the match for quite a long period of time at the beginning of the second half. Inter only created a little more than the hosts in expected goals. HIFK also recorded more attacks and dangerous attacks – the ball possession was 50-50%.
