KTP vs PK-35

KTP welcome visitors from the capital of my home country, Helsinki, for this Finnish Ykkönen clash at Arto Tolsa Areena. This is a low-league league by European standards but an awesome league to bet on as the bookies are often very lost with their odds and clearly do not invest as much resources on this league as they do on big European leagues – or even Veikkausliiga, the first tier of Finnish football. There is a significant difference in pure class between the two teams and the hosts are 62% favorites to win if front of their enthusiastic fans who are louder than those of many other Ykkönen teams! Football is indeed a big thing in a small town of Kotka. Even so, even for KTP the home advantage is not as big as for some top European clubs, Newcastle United, for example.

KTP are the in the second place in my power rating that illustrate the teams’ raw class. TPS from Turku are in the first place and will probably be promoted to Veikkausliiga for next season. KTP, have a good chance to the same as well.. They, in fact, played in the first tier last season and have to players and financial resources the be a solid Veikkausliiga tea in the future. They started the season a bit slow but have played just one bad match so far in Ykkönen. This happened on the 20th of May against JäPS in Järvenpää when they lost to the biggest positive surprise team 1-2 and did not really deserve anything more! They, did however, play well in their most recent match against Jaro in Jakobstab which is not an easy place to play at even now when Jaro are not at their best. It was a 2-2 draw. Before this they crushed Gnistan, a good team from Helsinki, 4-0 at home. Gnistan are currently in the second place in the standings with 18 points – KTP are 4th with 16 points in the bank.

PK-35 have been a huge disappointment so far this season and are currently in the 11th place in this league of 12 teams. They have grabbed just seven points so far and have a goal difference of 11:20. Moreover, they have just one win to their account! They have been a solid contender in Ykkönen for many years and do have potential for better – some of their players are very good for this level but they just keep under-performing.. I have lowered their power rating even further after their most recent match. The team spirit is not the best and they do not have a good structure or balance, especially in defense. The betting market seems to respect them too much here and fails to realize how good KTP are! PK-35 started well in their most recent match against JäPS last Saturrday taking a 2-0 lead in the first half but were very bad in the second half allowing JäPS to make it 2-2. Both teams missed a penalty kick in this match that I was watching in at MagneCit Areena in Pihlajamäki. A major improvement is needed from the visitors to take even a point from Kotka. This would be a challenging match for PK-35 even if they were at their best.. They have never been a good team on the road and have now lost four matches in a row away from home.
