One of the reasons to back Sevilla tonight is their huge and deep squad. Over the last seasons it has allowed them to perform so successfully in Cup fixtures, let it be Copa del Rey or the beloved Europa League. Very few clubs in La Liga have the luxury of 2 players per position selection. Sevilla, thanks to Sporting Director guru Monchi, can easily rotate through the week without losing a lot of quality on the pitch. While striker Youssef El-Nesyri is in tremendous form in La Liga, Dutch targetman Luuk De Jong is successfully filling in during Copa del Rey games. Now there is even more versatility in attacking third with the arrival of Atalanta's key man Papu Gomez. He can literally play in any role in Sevilla's 4-2-3-1 formation and will be looking to make his debut in Sevilla shirt tonight.
Visitors have no squad issues to deal with, bar left fullback's Acuna injury, heading into tonight's game. Their domestic form is really decent at the moment - they've taken easy care of Eibar, Cadiz and Alaves (very favourable schedule indeed) and moved 4 points clear of Villarreal in the Champions League 4th spot.
In January Sevilla already held 2 Copa del Rey games, winning both in - vs. Valencia's heavily rotated XI (3-0) and Leganes (1-0 in extra time).
Almeria is going strong in LaLiga2 and is considered one of the favourites for promotion to elite division. Based on their lineups in previous Copa del Rey games, this competition is clearly not their priority this season. Manager Jose Gomes used a highly experimental lineup in the previous round against Osasuna and still went through via penalty shoot-out. On the pitch, Osasuna was in full control and dominated the game all the time, while Almeria just defended in numbers. They were indeed very fortunate to take that match into penalties and eventually go through.
With this in mind, and Sevilla's strong form + deep squad, I believe, visitors should be good enough get the ticket into the semi-final stage.
And a fair warning, though, as there is extra time in case of draw at full-time, this always adds a share of controversy to bets on favourites.
