Leganes, Espanyol and Mallorca were the three relegated teams from La Liga last season. Now Leganes are still in the promotion play-off position, while the other two lead the table. This was not good enough for Leganes board who sacked their coach Jose Luis Marti, the reason for that is basically the poor away form as at home Leganes have won 8 of their 10 games so far.

The new manager is Asier Garitano who returns to Leganes, he was in charge of the outfit for 5 seasons from 2012/2013, and is a club legend. His last job was at Alaves for the season 2019/20, since then he has been resting and recharging and surely is up to the task at hand, and a promotion back to La Liga would also mean a return to the limelights. He did promote them from Segunda B! At Alaves he replaced their current manager Abelardo, but got fired himself later on after poor results.

Leganes was last season the unfortunate ones to lose both of their top strikers in the winter transfers, En-Nesyri to Sevilla and Braithwaite to Barcelona. The latter being really controversial as it was outside the window! Those transfers sealed their relegation, but under his previous spell Garitano showed that Leganes belong to La Liga. Maybe Garitano belongs to Leganes?

Money-wise Leganes are one of the big boys in Segunda. Espanyol are clearly ahead but Leganes are one the top-6, and in comparision to thei Galician visitors tonight they have about 5 times more expensive squad at hand.

Lugo have played a decent season so far and are currently closer to promotion play-off spots than relegation, but in Segunda everything is possible! Last season's Deportivo La Coruña are a prime example of that after a roller-coaster ride where they were at one point in play-off position, the next moment they were in Segunda B.

Segunda B is not only very even, but also very low-scoring league. So far this league they average 1.9 goals per game. What it means in practice is that if you concede a goal it is unlikely to win. Garitano is a master of defensive work and to push the 1-0 winning scorelines, just what is needed.
