Haka vs SJK

Haka welcome visitors all the way from Seinäjoki, a city in Western Finland, for this Finnish Veikkausliiga round 8 clash at Tehtaan Kenttä in Valkeakoski. It is quite a long way to travel for SJK and traveling always takes energy but we still have to remember that home advantage is on average lower in Veikkausliiga than in most European football leagues. The people of Valkeakoski, a small city, in Southern Finland, do love their team but the fans are not very loud, and cannot be even compared to for example the very enthusiastic HIFK's fans known as "Stadin Kingit" - The Kings of Stadi. "Stadi" is the slang name for Helsinki, the capital of my home country. Haka's fans cannot really create an atmosphere that would intimidate the visiting team or the referee.. The match taking place on Tuesday at 18:00 local time also means that there will not be as many fans today as there would probably would have been has this match been played say 15:00 on Saturday or Sunday..This is the highest level of Finnish football. The level is not particularly high by European standards and high-scoring matches are quite rare. Almost all teams have a pretty solid defense though but the tempo is low and few players are skilled offensively. It does not offer high-class entertainment for football fans I am afraid. We have already made big profits betting on Veikkausliiga and on the 2nd tier, Ykkönen, and won again all three picks last Sunday when Ilves beat IFK Mariehamn, Jaro crushed PK-35 4-0 (!) and TPS beat SJK Akatemia 2-0. In this match SJK +0.5 goals handicap is the smart choice for my fans and me. A draw would be enough and the chance for us winning this pick is 64%.

SJK have under-performed this season which must be the main reason for them being under-rated by the betting market. Haka have also, for some reason, convinced the betting market with their perfomances.. SJK currently occupy the 11th place with six points. There are a total of 12 teams in this league. Haka, on the other hand, are in the 7th place with nine points. However, I rate SJK in the 4th place in my power ratings that illustrate the teams' overall class. Haka are in the 8th or 9th place - there are some very evenly matched teams in this league.. They have improved from very bad last season but not as much as the betting market thinks! They lost to a very good team KuPS, the current leaders, in Kuopio and played, in fact, pretty well despite the 1-2 loss. However, I will not react to this better than expected performance too much.. Haka's level on the pitch varies quite a lot and in their most recent match they were very bad offensively and lost 0-2 to the newly promoted VPS 0-2.Before this they needed the go all the way to beat TPS, who play in Ykkönen, to qualify for the next round of Finnish Cup. It was a disappointing performance! TPS had their chances to win already during the 90 minutes of play. Except for the KuPS match Haka have not faced very strong opponents recently.

SJK are the better team in all areas of the game, especially in terms of offensive creativity and structure. Their coach is also better than Haka's Teemu Tainio. The visitors ended a losing streak of five match against VPS with a hard-fought 1-0 away from home win last week. The was not a great performance but is a huge morale boost and relief for the promising Spanish coach's Joaquin Gomez,35, team. We must, however, remember that SJK would have deserved some points in many of the matches they lost! This was the case especially in match they played at home before beating VPS - they lost 1-2 at home and would have deserved a draw from this quite balanced match. They also challenged HJK very well in the 2nd round of Veikkausliiga and almost scored a late 1-1 goal despite playing with ten men. SJK were far from their optimal level in the first half of last season as well but improved a lot as the season progressed..
