Tottenham’s flat performance in the 1-3 defeat against Liverpool in midweek left a lot of material for analysis. Spurs had created 0.10 scoring chances on Xg index - one of their season’s worst “achievements” and that coming against Liverpool’s injury plagued defense, which featured the likes of Phillips in the 2nd half (replaced injured Matip at half-time) and centre-mid Henderson out of position.

While being toothless at the offensive end, Tottenham were absolutely horrid defensively basically gifting all 3 goals to Liverpool and a few more chances in the process. The other negative outcome of that midweek fixture was the injury to key striker Harry Kane - Spurs leading scorer and, amusingly, top assists provider (12 and 11 respectively). Kane’s importance can not be underestimated and Mourinho is short of a proper centre forward ahead of this tricky visit to Brighton.

Brighton is a team that systematically fails to convert their on the pitch supremacy into goals. There’s been a handful of games by now, where BHA dominated the opposition and still ended up either drawing or even losing at full time. One thing they can’t be accused of is lack of style. Graham Potter has established a recognizable gameplay through his time in charge.

Tariq Lamptey is the only notable absentee for hosts. Otherwise, this should be a game, where they go with the optimal lineup.

I believe that Kane’s absence on top of Tottenham’s worrisomely flat midweek performance will allow Brighton to shock visitors and take points on Sunday evening.
